Lena Volz MacCallum, age 89, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011. Lena was born August 29, 1921 near Ubly, MI, to the late John & Bertha Schneider. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Berne, MI in June 1936. She worked at Pigeon Farmers Co-op Elevator prior to
marrying Clare Volz, son of Gottleib and Louise Volz, December 25, 1941. Mr. & Mrs. Volz lived on his farm near Sebewaing where they attended
Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lena belonged to Mary Martha Guild and Women's Missionary League.
Clare and Lena were blessed with four children: Melvin Volz, Marilyn
(her special friend, Melvin Spencer) Sylvester, Wallace Volz, and Dale (Lisa) Volz. Clare passed away on February 17, 1961. Lena and her son, Melvin, continued to farm for eleven years. She also worked at Polewach's Store in Pigeon. She then married Angus MacCallum on October 29, 1977. They lived near Ubly. Angus died on April 29, 1985. She moved back to Sebewaing on September 21, 1991.
Besides her four children, she is also survived by one granddaughter, Marlene (Stephen) Forbes, and two great granddaughters, Megan (Matthew) Franklin and Kendra Walker, all of Caro. Two sisters, Matilda Gintner of Elkton and Irene Particka of Ubly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Joe Reimann & his wife Nora, sisters Mary Finkbeiner and her husband Murriel, Matilda's husband Steve Gintner, Regina Smith and her husband Fred, Rose & her husband Harlon Volz, and Irene's husband Floyd, son-in-law George Sylvester and grandson Clare Sylvester.
Lena's hobbies were making quilts and planting flowers.
Visitation is Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home, Sebewaing from 2-9pm.
The funeral service is Monday, February 28, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place at the church at 10am until the time of
service at 11am. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to the family.
