Leon J. Henne, 72, of Bay Port, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw after a long illness.
Leon was born March 2, 1949 in Pigeon, the second of four children born to the late Kenneth and Mary (Jerome) Henne. He graduated from Laker High School in 1967. On November 11, 1967 he married April Roeber at the Kilmanagh EUB Church, enjoying 54 years of marriage.
Leon grew up on the family dairy farm, feeding calves at five, driving tractors and trucks at ten, and milking cows before and after school everyday. He retired from Tower Automotive in Elkton after 35 years. He loved to work on cars when he was younger. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, both on TV and at the track. He was a civil war reenactor for 20 years belonging to the Confederate Unit of 5th Texas Company E. When Leon was no longer able to participate in the military scenarios he was made the sheriff, where he talked and demonstrated to many school groups and the public.
Leon is survived by his wife April; daughter Samantha Edgerton of Bad Axe; grandsons Christian and Patrick; daughter-in-law Rebecca Henne; brother Carl (Pam); sister-in-law Mary Henne; brother-in-law Richard Durkee; mother-in-law Virginia Roeber; nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his son Jason; brother Kent, sister Julie Durkee, and father-in-law George Roeber.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, November 16th at the Bay Port United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Nowak officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8pm Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Bay Port United Methodist Church.
