Leonard W. "PENNY" Fritz, age 96, of Elkton, died Tuesday evening, March 30, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born May 12, 1913, at the home of his parents, the late Charles and Louisa (Steinman) Fritz in Brookfield Twp.
Penny was a 1931 graduate of Owendale High School and worked on the family farm for several years. On December 7, 1940, he was united in marriage to Leona R. Ewald at the Evangelical Parsonage in Elkton. They raised their family and spent their entire married life of almost 70 years in Elkton.
He began his career with Michigan Lumber Fabricators, Elkton in the early 1940's and retired as a supervisor in 1975. Penny was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and was also the custodian for many years. He enjoyed gardening, being out of doors and was an avid Tiger fan. He grew vegetables and flowers, well known for the beautiful roses he raised. Penny loved being with his family especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Leona; two children, Bob (Donna) Fritz and Margie (Dan) Maxwell both of Elkton; nine grandchildren, Connie, Scot, Kathy, Sandy, Randy, Michelle, Jodie, Joell and Jennifer; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Matt Fritz and Richard Fritz and two sisters, Luelle Ewald and Aldine Ewald all of Elkton.
Preceding him in death was a grandson, Brian; his sister, Vernetta Schuester and five brothers, Norman, Otis, Wallace, Calvin and Willard.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, April 3, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the CHURCH from 2 to 8 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton United Methodist Church or Bay Shore Camp.
