Leonard E. Griggs age 81 of Elkton died Monday morning, December 28, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center, Bad Axe.
He was born May 17, 1928, at the home of his parents, the late Russell and Ella Rose (Smith) Griggs in Colfax Twp.
Leonard served in the US Army in Korea. When he returned he married Betty J. Gotham July 12, 1952 at the Elkton Methodist Church. They raised their family and made their home in Elkton.
Betty preceded him in death, April 11, 2006.
Leonard was an arc welder at Active Industries, Elkton retiring in 1982 with 30 years of service. After retiring, he started a bicycle repair business in his garage, fixing rebuilding and selling used bicycles for 17 years.
He attended the Community Wesleyan Church when able, was a member of the Elkton VFW Post and enjoyed hunting, small game, ducks and deer and loved to fish.
Surviving are four children, Shirley Nichols of Bad Axe, Danny (Sue) Griggs of Sandusky, David Griggs of Owendale and Tonda (Dale) Slater of Bad Axe; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two brothers, Jeff Grigg of Imlay City and Carl Grigg of Elkton; six sisters, Ella Mae Hollenshead, Ilene Young and Lucille (Ken) Schember all of Elkton, Dorothy Bouverette of Caseville, Jean Kuhn of Marion, OH and June Nicol of Kingston and sister-in-law, Tiny Grigg of Elkton.
Preceding him in death was a daughter, Mary Jane; two sisters, Annabelle Wiederhold and Shirley Griggs and two brothers, Bob and Loren Grigg.
Funeral services will conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. DeWeerd Smith, will officiate with burial and military honors at Riverside Cemetery.
