Leonard J. "Len" Metzger, age 67 of Owendale, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
He was born in Grant Township on March 3, 1945 to Henry and Edilou (Dubs) Metzger, and attended Greenwood Country School. After graduating from Laker High School in 1963, Len served with the U.S. Army from 1964-1966, then attended trade school. On September 5, 1970 he was united in marriage to Joyce A. Adams at the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene.
Len worked at DeFoe Shipyard in Bay City prior to working for Active Industries. In 1977 he began working for General Motors as a skilled trade electrician, and retired in 2001. He dearly loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, also his favorite dog, Copper. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was an avid outdoorsman. He liked watching birds and keeping the birdfeeders full. He made fabulous smoked turkey, jerky, and salsa, as well as canned produce from his garden.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, where he sang as a member of the choir and served as an usher. He was also a member of the Owendale Lions Club.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Joyce, Len is survived by a daughter, Michelle Lynn Becker of Bay City; two sons, Bryan J. (Jenn) Metzger of Chesaning and Adam W. (Colleen) Metzger of Bay City; seven grandchildren: Miranda, Avery, Conner, Tristan, Tyler, Gage, and Cayden; two brothers, James (Pat) Metzger of Turner and Dick (Char) Metzger of Owendale; a sister, Sandy Metzger of AuGres; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Metzger of Owendale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Metzger.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, with Rev. Lee Wenskay, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family discretionary fund.
