Leonard L. Thompson, age 89, died Thursday evening, January 1, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
He was born January 10, 1919 in Chandler Twp at the home of his parents the late John and Minnie (Eisinger) Thompson.
Leonard joined Army Air Force after high school and served three years during WW II. While in the service he met Helen J. Shaw. On August 3, 1946, they were united in marriage in Baton Rouge, LA and lived in Louisiana until 1947. They moved back to Huron County and farmed in Chandler Twp for ten years, then bought a crop and dairy farm in Grant Twp. In 1980, they retired and in 1992, they sold the farm and moved to Cass City.
Leonard was a former member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church, Cass City Presbyterian and Town & Country Square Dancers, Cass City. Leonard enjoyed the out-of-doors and was a good avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen; four children, Betty Jo (Fred) Maki of West Bloomfield, Chotile (Ray) Fox of Cass City, Larry (Cindy) Thompson of Spring Hills, FL and James (Ronda) Thompson of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and two brothers, Kenneth (Bernadine) Thompson of Utica and Lyle (Naomi) Thompson of Port Huron.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Don, Jack and Thomas and two sisters, Eleanor Eicher and Irene Roberts.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 6, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. David Blackburn pastor of Cass City Presbyterian Church will officiate with graveside military honors by the Elkton VFW and the Caseville American Legion at Chandler Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Monday and after 10 AM Tuesday.
Memorials may be directed to the Chandler Presbyterian Church or the Rawson Memorial Library.
