LeRoy E. Hayward of Caro, age 91, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw, following a brief illness. LeRoy was born Christmas Day, 1924 in Pontiac, the son of the late LeRoy D. and Pearl A. DeGerr. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served for seven years in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters as a radar technician. LeRoy was united in marriage with the former Betty Jane Converse on November 7, 1953 in Pontiac, and she survives him. He was employed at GM Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw for over thirty years. LeRoy was a member of Caro VFW Post 4164, and attended the Caro Assembly of God Church. A hardworking man by nature, he also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, restoring golf clubs, and in his younger years, boating and fishing. LeRoy is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Betty Hayward of Caro; children, LeRoy A. Hayward of Caro, Carol "Missy" Hayward of Caro, Pam & Drew Jackson of Longview, Texas; four grandchildren, Garrett Hayward of Midland, Clarissa Jackson of Girdwood, Alaska, Lillian & Joseph Veres of Lynchberg, Virginia, Andrew Jackson of Longview, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Bailee Mae Hayward, Hudson Veres and Grayson Veres; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Charles Hayward, Daniel Hayward, Ellen Natzel, Elizabeth Grinzinger, John Hayward and Robert Hayward. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Arnold Burger and Pastor Dave Dietzel officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro with military honors rendered by the Caro VFW Post 4164 and the U.S. Navy. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Cass River Pet Friendz.
