Lester C. Otto, age 87, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon.
He was born February 18, 1928 to Melvin and Frieda (Koteskey) Otto in Winsor Township. Les graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1945, followed by two years in the Armed Forces serving in Korea. On April 7, 1951 he was united in marriage with Lorraine Damm at Pigeon United Methodist Church, and they have celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Lester farmed while working for the Sebewaing Sugar Factory as well as Kohl Construction, for about ten years. They moved to Mayville where he designed, and with the help of his family, built and ran Greenbrier Golf Club for 25 years, spending their winters in Florida. They retired on Sand Point. He loved fishing, hunting, building, woodcarving, oil painting, working with stained glass, and traveling.
Les was a member of Caseville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; son, Larry Otto and his wife Nancy of New Mexico; daughter, Lesa Eden and her husband Fred of Sand Point; son-in-law Donald Donath of Mayville; brothers, Melvin Otto and his wife Marlene, and Lee Otto and his wife Yvonne of Gladwin; sister-in-law, Shirley Otto of Troy; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Laurie Donath; grandson Nicholas Downing; brother Donald Otto; and sister Shirley (Bill) Kundinger.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Caseville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Fuller, pastor, officiating. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City.
Memorials may be given to Caseville United Methodist Church.
