Lila Thompson

Lila Mae Thompson of Caro, age 77, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at her home. Lila was born December 9, 1941 in Sherburn, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Leonard and Maxine Flohrs. She grew up in Trimont, Minnesota, graduating from Trimont High School in 1959 and went on to graduate in 1960 as a medical technologist. Lila was united in marriage with Thomas Thompson on November 25, 1961 at Galena Lutheran Church in Galena Township, Minnesota. She worked at a doctor's office in Truman, Minnesota while Tom finished his degree. Tom's position with J. C. Penney led the family to move to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Chicago, Illinois, Albert Lee, Minnesota, Marshalltown, Iowa, and Ottumwa, Iowa before settling in Caro in 1977. Lila was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro where she served as a leader with Stephen Ministries. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Lila is survived by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Tom Thompson; one daughter, Patricia Gulick and her husband, Ken, of Byron; one son, David Thompson and his wife, Carrie, of Brighton; four grandchildren, Jill Gulick, Jason Gulick and his wife, Brianna, Collin Thompson and Tommy Thompson; great-granddaughter, Lila Gulick; brother-in-law, Jim Thompson and his wife, Sharon, of New Bern, North Carolina; four nephews, Mike and his wife, Val, Joe, Jimmy and Matt Thompson; and twelve cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Ellington Township Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Stephen Ministries.
