Lillian Waszak

Lillian (Greski) Waszak of Caro passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Lillian came into the world over a century ago on August 30, 1921 in Detroit, the youngest of five children born to the late Marion & Helen (Rick) Greski. Her early years were spent in the Detroit and Dearborn area until her parents purchased a farm in Caro as an investment during the Great Depression. Lillian graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1939 and remained in the area until her marriage to Anthony "Tony" Waszak on October 11, 1941 in Detroit. Tony was drafted to the Army Air Corps only a few months later, and Lillian eventually followed him to California and Florida to assist in the war effort and serve as Rosie the Riveter. She returned to Detroit in 1945, ahead of Tony's discharge the following year, in anticipation of their first child. The couple moved to Caro in 1948 to open Waszak's Cold Cuts, a business Lillian and Tony owned and operated for over sixteen years. Lillian was a faithful member of St. Christopher Parish in Caro where she served as a catechism teacher and altar society member. She was also instrumental in the approval of the ecumenical nativity scene displayed each year on the Tuscola County courthouse lawn. In her earlier years, Lillian was a member of the Versatile Club, Wixom Club, and remained an avid Bridge and Pinochle player to the end. She was a volunteer worker for many local elections, American Red Cross blood drives, and Tuscola County Medical Care Community events. Left to cherish her memory are two children and their spouses, Robert & Martha Waszak of Baldwin, Elaine & Robert Rabideau of Lansing; five grandchildren and their spouses, Emily & Jeremy Florence of Canton, Adam Waszak of St. Johns, Nathan & Charlene Rabideau, Rachel & Nick Lipinski, Amanda & Euan Abraham, all of Lansing; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Waszak in 2007; daughter, Linda Ann Waszak; and two grandchildren, Whitney Lane Waszak and Anthony James Waszak.
