Lloyd Earl Hughes, age 90, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Covenant Health Care, Cooper in Saginaw. He was born on February 29, 1920 in Juniata Township to the late Guinn and Mary (Gingrich) Hughes and was a lifelong resident of the township. Lloyd Hughes and the former Ada A. Robison were united in marriage on January 20, 1945 in Saginaw, and she preceded him in death in May of 1976. He and the former Jane Osborn were married on September 18, 1998 at the Caro United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2000. He then married the former Nancy French- LeBlanc on August 2, 2003 at the Caro United Methodist Church. Lloyd was a Vassar High School graduate and worked on the family farm. On March 17, 1948 he went to work for Saginaw Malleable Iron, first as a metal worker, then plant protection, and the remainder of his time as Powerhouse Engineer. He had also attended college classes for his unlimited engineering license. In addition to his work and family, his life revolved around the activities of the Masonic Lodge. Lloyd joined the Masonic family in 1960 at Fairgrove Lodge #433. He was very active in Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 and was Worshipful Master in 1987. In the year 2000 he was elected Mason of the Year. He is an honorary member of Millington Lodge #470, Vassar Lodge #163 and Mayville Lodge #393. Lloyd was High Priest of Caro Chapter #96 Royal Arch Masons in 2002 and 2003. He was also a life member of Kedron Chapter #33 O.E.S., Caro. Lloyd was also an active member of Bay City Scottish Rite Consistory, Cass City Council #90, R. & S.M. and Bad Axe Commandry #52, K.T. Lloyd loved to hunt, as recently as this year, with his son and for years he had a cottage and hunt camp up North. He enjoyed mowing the lawn, camping, traveling as a member of the Airstream Club, collecting coins, and tinkering as he made “stuff”. Lloyd had visited every Civil War Battleground east of the Mississippi and had participated in many Civil War reenactments with the 1st Michigan Regiment. He attended and recently experienced emersion baptism at Living Waters Chapel. In Lloyds words, “My goals in life are simple, fill my life with Masonry, be honest in all my endeavors, stay healthy, and live to be 100.” He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hughes of Caro; one son, Lloyd B. (Rita) Hughes of Millington; his stepchildren; Mark (Wendy) Bales of Caro, Kemberlynn Plumlee of Dallas, Texas and Jamison LeBlanc of Caro; eight grandchildren, Amanda Bales, Jessica Kopka, Amber and Sarah LeBlanc, Andrew Morales, Thomas Plumlee, Rianne and Kaitlyn Bertrand; his nieces, Laura Bradley and Mary (Randy) Wright; his nephews, Carl (Pam) Hughes, Timothy (Paula) Hughes, Stephen (Dee) Hughes. In addition to his parents and first two wives, he was preceded in death by his five brothers. The funeral service will be held at Living Waters Chapel in Caro on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor James Solomon officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. There will be a Masonic memorial service on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Gideon Bibles.
