Lois Jean Binder

Lois Jean Binder of Saginaw, age 66, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Lois was born August 25, 1954 in Caro, the daughter of the late Rex and Dorothy (Higley) Binder. She graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1972 and attended Delta College. Lois later enrolled at Howard's Beauty Academy in Caro and became a licensed cosmetologist. Her first position in that field was at JCPenney's Salon in Saginaw where she continued to work for many years. She returned to Delta College to earn her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and caring for residents at the St. Frances Nursing Home and Heartland Manor in Saginaw. Even in retirement, Lois continued to care for the elderly as a hairdresser at Edgewood Assisted Living. She was an avid reader, a devout dog lover, and enjoyed horseback riding in her younger years. Lois walked the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day for many years and could outpace those half her age. An active member of the Republican Party, she attended the Inauguration of President George H. W. Bush. Lois was also devoted to her family and was an excellent caregiver to her parents. Her spare time was often spent cooking, baking, camping, singing, and enjoying her flowers. Lois is survived by three siblings and their spouses, Marion Binder of Caro, Ruth Binder & Darwin Heme of Grand Ledge, Fred & Chris Binder of Caro; one niece and her husband, Danielle & Joshua Halpin of Caro; great-nephew, Joshua Halpin, Jr. of Caro; aunt, Shirley Binder of Caro; and many cousins. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Tony Tomasino officiating. Burial will follow at Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
