Loraine (Miller) Fluegge of Elkton, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. She was born on June 11, 1943, in Detroit, the daughter of the late John and Albertina (Kuck) Miller. Loraine was a proud member of the first graduating class of Laker High School in 1961. Later that year, on December 30, she married the love of her life, Otto Heinrich Fluegge, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church – Berne. Their marriage was filled with nearly sixty-three beautiful years together, five wonderful children, and a lifetime of cherished memories. Otto preceded her in death on September 17, 2024.
A faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church – Berne, Loraine sang in the choir and shared her love of music through singing and playing the piano. She was also a proud Sweet Adeline. But her talents didn’t stop at music—Loraine was also an avid bowler, even competing at a semi-professional level. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, and had a deep love for animals.
Loraine loved spending time with family and friends, especially around a table with a good deck of cards, always up for a game of pinochle or euchre. She treasured camping trips to Harrisville with her family, and spending winters in Sebring, Florida with Otto. Together, they co-owned Fluegge Foods for a few years. Loraine will be remembered as kind, caring, and above all, deeply loving. Her family was her heart, and her legacy will live on in the generations she leaves behind.
Loraine is survived by children, Veronica Fluegge-Garza of Ann Arbor, Grant Fluegge of Shelby Twp., Regina (Jeff) Rastello of Saginaw, and Leigh (James) Osentoski of Kingston; son-in-law, Terry Mackezyk of Tennessee; grandchildren, Marissa, Daniel, Shelby, Celeste, Crystal, Michael, Chase, Maximus, and Zane; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Holly, Savannah, and Zef; sister, Evelyn (Carl) Krohn; brother-in-law, Wayne Schember; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Fluegge; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Loraine was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhoda Mackezyk; sister, Joann Schember; brother, George Miller.
Loraine’s funeral service will be at 11:00am on Monday, April 14, 2025 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steven Neuman officiating. The burial will be at the church cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 12:00pm until 6:00pm at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
