Loren H. Elftman

Loren Henry Elftman, age 90 of Pigeon, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care, Pigeon.

He was born in Bay Port on February 26, 1926 to Henry C. and Minnie A. (Schweitzer) Elftman, and graduated from Mud Creek School. He and Dolores E.A. Gaeth were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh on December 17, 1949.

Loren was a farmer throughout his lifetime, and was known for his unique mechanical abilities. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, and the current mayor of Berne.

Loren is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores, of Pigeon; children, Marjorie (Melvin) Kuhl of Sebewaing, Christine (Michael) Stodola of Jenison, David (Janis) Elftman of Filion, and Catherine (Rev. Henry) Hales of Palms; eight grandchildren: Ryan (Heather) Kuhl, Joshua (Alicia) Kuhl, Erica (Michael) Armbruster, Joseph Stodola, Lauren Stodola, Hannah Hales, Seth Hales, and Abby Hales; nine great-grandchildren: Avery, Brooklyn, Channing, Dustin, Emersynn, Charlotte, Morgan, Kenzie, and Brady; siblings, Elaine (Ray) Errer of Bad Axe, Marian Freeland of Midland, Leon (Leil) Elftman of Pinconning, and Clark Elftman of Bay Port; sister-in-law, Bonnie Gaeth of Owendale; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Donald Orban of Joplin, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Adam and Aaron Kuhl; sister, Lou Ann Jarvis; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Gaeth, Richard Jarvis and Richard Freeland.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cross Lutheran Church, Cross Lutheran School Scholarship, or Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care.
