Loren R. Grigg, age 85, of Elkton, died Monday evening, January 31, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born January 22, 1920, in Onaway to the late Russell and Ella Rose (Smith) Grigg and moved to Huron County in his youth, living in the Elkton area most of his life.
Mr. Grigg was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater. After his return from the service he was united in marriage Dora Souva at the Methodist Church, Pigeon.Loren had been employed at H & R Libkuman Meat Processing, Elkton for nearly 20 years and with the Elkton Petroleum Co-op also for 20 years retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton, having served as an usher and member of the administrative board for seven years. He served 21 years as a member of the Oliver Township Fire Department and was a life member of the Carpenter - Dorsch VFW Post, Elkton.
Surviving are his wife, Dora "Tiny" Grigg; five children, Robert (Judy) Grigg of Bad Axe, Penny (Brent) Woodward of Elkton, Kitty (Bill) Sampson of Kinde, Russ (Cheryl) Grigg of Essexville, and Joe (Heather) Grigg of Saginaw; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; six sisters, Ella Mae Hollingshead, Ilene (Ken) Young, Lucille (Ken) Schember all of Elkton, Dorothy Bouverette of Caseville, June Nicol of Deford, and Jean Kuhn of Marion, OH; three brothers, Leonard (Betty) Griggs of Elkton, Jeff (Adeline) Grigg of Imlay City, and Carl Grigg of Elkton; many nieces and nephews.
Loren was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Grigg; and two sisters, Annabel Weiderhold and Shirley Grigg.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. DeWeerd Smith, pastor will officiate with graveside military honors at Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Friends may call from 1 to 9 PM Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 10 AM Thursday
