Loren "The Shingle Man" Stein

Loren Frederick Stein "The Shingle Man," passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.
Born September 14, 1930 at home on the family farm in Winsor Township, he was the son of Carl F. and Martha L. (Hafner) Stein. On June 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Lola Jean Truemner at the Kilmanagh EUB Church; they have been married nearly 63 years.
Loren worked for 15 years at Huron Castings, retiring in 1985. He farmed and worked for Thumb Truck. He worked for Easlick Contracting, Kuhl Construction, and Tietz Excavating - Loren never retired. He worked at home making lots of sawdust with his sawmill, and enjoyed woodworking. Known as "The Shingle Man," Loren made cedar shingles. He made shingles at many old engine shows and at the Octagon Barn. He also worked on restoring old tractors, and was a member of numerous antique tractor clubs. Loren dearly loved his family.
He was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville.
In addition to his wife Lola, Loren is survived by his sons, Jim (Carol) Stein of Pigeon, John (Lenore Karuby) Stein of Wisner, and Jerold (Laura Kosiara) Stein of Freeland; grandchildren: Sara (Tim) Kramer of Cass City, James (Erica) Stein II of Pigeon, Kristy (Nolan) Holsapple of Troy, Kayla (Ron Morency) Stein of Troy, Katie (Mike Dyer) Stein of Unionville, Loren Stein II of Freeland, and Lila Stein of Mayville; great-granddaughters, Ali and Ona Kramer; brother, Ronald (Betty Sue) Stein of Lake, Mississippi; sister, Linda (Bill) Koerner of Forney, Texas; dear friends, Ken and Fay Ignash and family; hunting partner, Andy (Marlene) Stratton; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Kenneth, Gerald, and RB; and sisters, Marion Elenbaum, Barb Smith and infants Marilyn and Myra.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Lee Wenskay, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

VISITATION AT ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, PIGEON:
Friday, June 5 1:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 6 9:30 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m.
