Louis Charles Cheek, Jr. of Caro, age 93, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Covenant Health Care - Harrison in Saginaw. Louis was born August 3, 1927 in Fairgrove, the seventh child and only son of the late Louis, Sr. and Mary (Kuzma) Cheek. He attended school in Fairgrove, and left home at the age of seventeen to join the U.S. Navy. He later went to work for the State Hospital in Wahjamega, retiring in the early 1980's. Louis enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years. He was united in marriage with the former Dolores Thane on November 26, 1949. Together, they had four children, Carol, Vera, Chuck and Robin. They were married for thirty-five years when Dolores passed away on July 27, 1985. He then married Dorothy Adams in 1988 and she preceded him in death in the early 1990's. Louis married Jane Roemer on July 15, 1995 and they enjoyed nineteen years together when she passed away on September 20, 2014. He married Nancy Thane in 2016, and she survives. Louis was a lifetime member of the Fairgrove VFW Post 7486. He loved spending time with his family, camping and fishing. In earlier years, he had beautiful rose gardens. Louis was an avid bowler and golfer in his younger years. He enjoyed working on small engines and playing in the trails, mud holes, and sand with his sand rail up north. Louis was also a painter having painted many pictures both on canvas and saw blades. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy; three children, Carol Gonzales of Essexville, Vera Parmenter of Unionville, and Charles Cheek of Norman, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Bobby (Marsha) McIntosh, Shelly (Bob) Karl, Chuck, Jr. (Stephanie) Cheek, Tanya (Mark) Porritt, Troy (Jamie) McIntosh, Marie (Bryan) Koch, Keith Russell, Amy (Jimmy) Sattelberg; eighteen great-grandchildren, Taylor McIntosh, Heather (Lantz) Porritt, Billy (Azurah) Karl, Stacy Carter, Adrian Skinner, Trista McIntosh, Vera (Josh) Bills, Shane Carter, Austin Skinner, Aaron Cheek, Bryce Koch, Tanner Russell, Carson Cheek, Kaylee Koch, Kylie McIntosh, Toby Sattelberg, Walker Porritt and Cody Sattelberg; six great-great-grandchildren, Keegan, Chase, Kaydence, Carter, Zaevion and Christie. In addition to his parents and wives, Louis was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin Russell; one son-in-law, Bill Parmenter; two granddaughters, Christie McIntosh and Shawna Smathers; six sisters, Irene Cummings, Mary Deathrage, Velma Durst, Clara Nagy, Florence Horn and Frances Baranic. In keeping with Louis' wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held under the old oak tree at his daughter, Vera's, home, 1744 Kiel Road, Unionville, MI 48767 on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Vera Parmenter, 1744 Kiel Road, Unionville, MI 48767.
