Lucille M. Leckenby, age 95, of Wimberly, TX formerly of Elkton died Wednesday morning, September 12, at Deer Creek Nursing Home.
She was born May 27, 1912, at the home of her parents the late Samuel and Mary Ann (Schenck) Knechtel in Oliver Twp.
On May 23, 1932, she was united in marriage to Carl A. Leckenby at her parents home in Oliver Twp. Carl preceded her in death February 14, 1973.
Mrs. Leckenby and her husband owned the Elkton Dairy Bar until 1957, from there they bought the restaurant-gas station at Wakefield Corners (Pinnebog and M142 Intersection) and operated it until it closed in the mid 1970's. In 1997, she moved to Texas nearer to her son.
She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and worked with the youth for many years. Lucille enjoyed baking pies and other baked goods as she did so many years in the restaurant. She also loved to read, especially her Bible.
Surviving are two children, Phyllis Kreh of Owendale and John Leckenby of Wimberly, Tx; five grandchildren, Jeff (Karen) Kreh of Kinde, Steve Kreh of Reese, Dean (Julie) Kreh of Owendale, Paul of Elkton and Jennifer (Matt) Booms of Port Hope; twelve great grandchildren, Stacey, Kevin, Kristopher (Erin), Kristen, Kayla, Kariann, Jordan, Tiffany, Colin, Alexis, Brooklyn and Brianna and two sister-in-laws, Adina Knechtel and Dorothy (Robert) McArdle both of Elkton and many nieces and nephews..
Preceding her in death was her son-in-law, Lyle Kreh and brother, Clarence Knechtel.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday at the Elkton United Methodist Church with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Sunday and at the church after 10 am Monday.
Memorials may be given to the church.
