Lucille S. Schember

Lucille S. (Thompson) Schember age 84, of Elkton, went home to her Lord, Monday evening, March 24, at Bay County Medical Care Facility, Essexville.

She was born October 3, 1929, at the home of her parents, the late Russell and Ella Rose (Smith) Grigg. Lucille grew up in Elkton and was a 1948 graduate of Elkton High School. On October 7, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vern Thompson at the Elkton Methodist Church and made their home in Elkton. He preceded her in death September 10, 1974.

Lucille was a custodian at Lakers for a time and later at the Elkton United Methodist Church where she was a very active member. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women taking charge of funeral luncheons and other activities. She was an excellent cook and baker, and loved having her family nearby. Lucille married Kenneth Schember August 13, 1983, they shared 28 years together before his passing on October 16, 2011.

Surviving are children, Peggy (Jim) Champagne of Elkton, Todd (Mary) Thompson of Bay City, Roger (Kathy) Schember of Jefferson, SC and Laura (Matt) Reilly of Elkton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Ella Mae Hollinshead and Ilene Young of Elkton, June Nicol of Deford and Jean Kuhn of Ohio and her sister-in-law, Dora Grigg of Elkton.

Preceding her in death were Kenneth’s son, Richard Schember; brothers, Robert, Loren, Leonard, Jeff and Carl Grigg; sisters, Annabel Wiederhold, Dorothy Bouverette, and Shirley Grigg.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, March 27, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.

Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Wednesday and at the church after 10AM Thursday
