Lucy L. Holmes

Lucy L. Holmes of Caro, age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at McLaren Lapeer Region in Lapeer. Lucy was born March 12, 1930 in Evart, the daughter of the late James and Ethel (French) Roose. On August 14, 1948, she was united in marriage with John J. Holmes, and he preceded her in death July 28, 2008. Lucy was a loving mother and homemaker, a life member of Caro VFW Post 4164 Auxiliary, and always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. She was neighborhood "mom" to all the kids that lived near her whenever they needed that special care that only a mom could provide. Recently, Lucy developed a love for cats, and fostered an ever-growing outdoor herd of them. She is survived by two children and their spouses, James W. & Colleen Holmes of Mayville, and Doris E. & Richard Low of Vassar; three daughters-in-law, Diane Holmes, Susan Holmes and Monnie Holmes, all of Caro; twenty grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Charles & Wilma Roose of Caro; three sisters-in-law, Alberta Roose, JoAnn Roose and Belva Holmes; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, John, Richard and Randy Holmes; three brothers, James, Leslie and Robert Roose; one brother-in-law, Hallie Holmes; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Brustmaker and Elmira Holmes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Phillip Green officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery in Mayville.
