Lula Mae Hoermann (Nusz) Piazza, age 93, of rural Vassar, died on January 16, 2010 at Covenant-Cooper in Saginaw. She was born on September 7, 1916 in Bay Port, the youngest child of Fred and Marie (Hansen) Hoermann. She was educated in the Saginaw and Essexville school systems and Bay City Central High School. She married John George Nusz on August 31, 1940 at the Trinity Evangelical Church in Sebewaing. Four children were born to that marriage, Gordon Wayne, Dale George, Neil Douglas and Linda Marie. They first lived in Sebewaing, and in 1951 moved to Caro. Lu was a wonderful mother and housekeeper. She also worked part time at the Gamble Store and was an Avon representative for many years. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in August of 1990. They were active members of the Caro Evangelical United Brethren Church which became a part of the Caro United Methodist Church. George died on January 2, 1993. On April 22, 1995 she married a family friend, Ferrer Piazza. For nearly fifteen years they loved and cared for each other in a wonderful way. Lu was preceded in death by her parents and all of her immediate family, a half-brother, Carl; half-sisters, Minnie, Bertha and Clara; three sisters, Anna, Ora and Mildred; three brothers, Ehlon and twins, Fred and Floyd. A granddaughter, Shannon (Dill) Senkevech, also preceded her in death in August of 2008. Lu is survived by her husband, Ferrer; three sons, one daughter and their spouses, Gordon Wayne (Shirley) Nusz of Flower Mound, Texas, Dale George (Joanne) Nusz of Deltona, Florida and Caro, Michigan, Neil Douglas (Vicki) Nusz of Graham, Texas and Linda Marie (Larry) Dill of Craig, Colorado; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Smith, Caro United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.
