Lyle Holik

Lyle Howard Holik, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at his home, following a period of declining health. Lyle was born January 26, 1927 in Cass City, the son of the late Mitchell and Muriel (Hill) Holik. He served in the U.S. Army from February of 1945 until November of 1946 and was stationed in Germany immediately following the fall of Berlin. After the war, Lyle took flight instructions under the GI Bill until he married. Lyle was united in marriage with the former Elizabeth Miller on June 28, 1947 in Pigeon, and the couple was to celebrate sixty-five years of marriage this year. He was first employed at the Nestle Company Milk Plant in Cass City, and then worked as an attendant nurse at the Caro Regional Center from 1954 until 1984 and also drove bus for Caro schools for thirty-one years. In his younger years, Lyle was a beef hobby farmer, raising over 150 head of cattle. He also enjoyed fishing, touring on his BMW motorcycle, camping, square dancing, downhill skiing, and especially deer hunting. He was a member of Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; four children and their spouses, Gary & Kathryn Holik, Steve & Carla Holik, Beth & Robert Skinner, Randy & Ellen Holik, all of Caro; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Lee & Jennie Holik of Niles, Michael & Jan Holik of Caro; three sisters and their spouses, Olga & Russell Schneeberger of Cass City, Opal & Clarence Schneeberger of Cass City, Oma & Bob Bond of Williamston; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and David Holik; and one grandson, Richard Holik. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Juniata Baptist Church with Mr. Holiks grandson, Rev. Anthony Hayden, officiating. Burial will follow at Juniata Township Cemetery with military honors being afforded by Caro V.F.W. Post #4164 and the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association or Tuscola County Relay for Life.
