Lyle Shetler, 80, of Pigeon, passed away from heart failure on a family vacation in Cancun, Mexico on Saturday, December 29, 2012.
Lyle was born in Pigeon on December 27, 1932 to the late Omar and Katie (Kipfer) Shetler.
Lyle graduated from Hesston High School in 1951 and then attended Hesston College. He was united in marriage to Betty Burkholder on December 29, 1952 in Harper, Kansas. Lyle spent his life working in the family business, Shetler Plumbing & Heating, started by his father Omar Shetler.
Lyle was active in, and past president of the Michigan Plumbers' & Mechanical Contractors' Association and the Rotary Club of Pigeon. Lyle was actively involved with the Gideons for 45 years. For 25 years Lyle directed the Pigeon Community Men's Chorus. Lyle gave much of his time to his church, Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Lyle was an avid golfer.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Betty; his son, Kent (Karin) Shetler of Pigeon; daughter, Karla (Marlin) Nussbaum of Poplar Grove, Illinois; his grandchildren: Andrea, Eric, Kate, Kacy and Koty; and his sister Lois (Mike) Massanari of Lynden, Washington.
Preceding him in death was his brother Warren and his son Ron.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
