Lynda Ann Whalen

Lynda Ann Whalen of Auburn Hills, formerly of Caro, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at St. Francis Home in Saginaw, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Lynda was born June 17, 1943 in Caro, the third of five children born to the late Edward and June (Ayre) Whalen, and graduated from Caro High School, Class of 1961. She attended Albion College where she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Lynda then settled in the Rochester Hills area and taught elementary school, a job she truly loved. She went on to earn a master's degree from Oakland University and returned to education as a counselor. After retiring, Lynda stayed busy with traveling, golfing, book clubs and Bible study. Lynda also taught a literacy class to adult women and was delighted when one of her students finished her first book. Lynda had a knack for making friends easily, and they remained her friends for a lifetime. To be with Lynda was fun and she was "always up to something." It must be said that Lynda felt it her responsibility to help people in need and she was extraordinarily charitable in a humble way; she would simply say, "they need it, I have it, I'll help them." Lynda is survived by three siblings, Sharon Ruf of Mustang, Oklahoma, Patrick Whalen of San Antonio, Florida, Nancy Jones of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Kaye Whalen. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
