Madge E. Gromek

Madge E. Gromek of Independence Village, Frankenmuth, formerly of Caro, age 94, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from Cartwright Center in Saginaw, following a short illness. Madge was born February 21, 1920 in Caro, the daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Putnam) Taylor. She was raised on the family farm in Almer Township and graduated from Caro High School as well as Saginaw Business Institute. Madge was united in marriage with John Gromek on January 27, 1940 in Saginaw, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2006. Madge and John resided in Saginaw for some time until they purchased the Euclid Motel in Bay City, operating it until their retirement. The Gromek's enjoyed their second homes, from the cottage up north, to Linwood Beach, and Fort Meyers, Florida, before settling on the Taylor family farm outside Caro. Madge enjoyed people, whether it be family, relatives, friends, or the people who stayed at the motel; she just enjoyed "visiting". Her farm roots never left her as she loved picking produce and going on crop tours. Madge was a member of the Caro First Presbyterian Church for much of her life. Madge is survived by three children and their spouses, Gloria and Don Loudy of Northville, Pastor Ginny and Tom Defoe of Saginaw, Gaines and Amy Gromek of South Lyon; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Madge was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Gaines Wright; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Jannis Taylor; a nephew, Jae Wright; and an infant brother, Jess Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Caro First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Meyer and Madges daughter, Pastor Ginny Defoe, officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Cartwright Care Center or Boys Town.
