Mae Ann Orth, 88, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe.

Mae Ann was born August 31, 1935 in Adrian to the late Nelson and Caroline (Schneipp) Elg.  She married Raymond E. Orth on June 21, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2020.

She received her teaching degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where she met her future husband who was studying for the ministry.  After marrying she taught elementary school in Columbus, Ohio, Menomonie, Wisconsin, and Woodville, Ohio.  After moving to Huron County in 1974 from Ohio she substitute taught at Immanuel Lutheran School in Sebewaing.  She was a former member of Cross Lutheran Church and Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing.  She used her gift of playing organ at several area churches.  A gifted homemaker, she loved sharing her talents with those she encountered, including a treat for neighborhood dogs.  She loved “All Creatures of her God and King.”

Mae Ann is survived by her children Luke (Carin) Orth of Lake, Mary (Scott) Dubs of Pigeon and Anne (Eric) Bell of Sebewaing; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Sears, Adrienne (Marcus) Sting, Danielle (Joshua) Woodruff, Karleigh (Brent) Irion, Morgan Bell, and Dalton and Levi Anderson; step-grandchildren Jamie (Joe), Ashleigh and Trevor; great grandchildren Riley, Kiera, Brielle, Jaidyn, Easton, Madelyn, Emily, Brentley and Raelynn; step-great-grandchildren Willow and Oak; sister-in-law Fern Orth of Grosse Pointe Woods; and nieces Linda and Patti.  She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Frederick “Bud.”

Funeral services will be at 3:00pm Monday, September 18 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paulette Cummings officiating.  Burial will be in Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon.  Visitation will begin at 2:00pm Monday.

Memorials may be made to Solomon Lutheran School in Woodville, Ohio, Christ the King Lutheran School in Sebewaing or Salem Church Youth in Pigeon.
