Marcel Naert, age 93, of Caseville, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City of complications from a recent stroke.
Marcel was born on June 1, 1917 in Detroit to the late Alex and Helen Naert. He graduated from Detroit Wilbur Wright High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a flight officer.
He was hired onto the Detroit Fire Department in 1941 and retired as Chief in 1977. Having vacationed in Caseville for many years, he moved there permanently in 1981. He was a member of the Detroit Retired Police and Fire Fighter’s Assoc., Moose, American Legion, AmVets and a proud 35-year member of the Caseville Eagles FOE #3690. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the Eagles and at his cabin near Rudyard.
Surviving are his twin sons William (Pamela) of Detroit and Joseph (Korene) of Caseville; daugther-in-law Alice of Caseville; grandchildren Michael, David, William, Kelly, Craig and John; and great-grandchildren Jenna, Michael, Daniel, Katelyn, Jake, Joe and Alex.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lena (nee Trotter), son Michael, brother Maurice and sister Marceline.
A celebration of his life will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 4th at the Caseville Eagles, 7017 East Park Street, followed by military honors and a luncheon.
Memorials may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.
