Marcia Bassford

Marcia F. Bassford, age 87, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro, following a period of declining health. Marcia was born September 10, 1924 in Mayville, the daughter of the late Marvin & Beulah (Titus) Gohs. She was united in marriage with Joseph D. Bassford on September 7, 1946 in Bay City. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2009. Marcia was employed at the Caro State Hospital as a receptionist for over thirty-five years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, Caro United Methodist Women, Watrousville-Caro Area Historical Society and the State Employee Retirement Association. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, genealogy and listening to music. Marcia is survived by one son and his wife, Daniel J. & Janet (Osgerby) Bassford; three granddaughters and their spouses, Christine & Greg Harrell of El Paso, Texas, Catherine & Todd Papin of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Laura & Joshua Meredith of Huntersville, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Savannah Harrell, Hannah and Jeffrey Papin, Caleb and Hunter Meredith; two sisters, Arlene Robinson of Caro, Barbara Munger of Memphis, Michigan; one brother and his wife, Fred & Dee Gohs of Garden Grove, California. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church.
