Margaret Alvena Edler of Pigeon, age 85, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Brookdale Bay City surrounded by her family. She was born August 16, 1939 in Sebewaing the daughter of the late Carl and Florence (Rummel) Lohrmann. Margaret graduated from Sebewaing High School with the class of 1957. She grew up learning the value of hard work at her father’s bakery, filling jelly donuts, and then moved on to the jewelry industry, working at Layher’s Jewelry. Margaret’s working career was marked by her ability to adapt and contribute wherever she went. She worked at Riverside Nursery, sharing her green thumb with customers, before returning to the jewelry business at RK Jewelers and later McKenzie Jewelers. Margaret also lent her talents to the Variety “Dime Store” Shop and provided cleaning services to many homes and businesses throughout the area. In 1991, Margaret opened Bearied Treasures, where she worked until 2000. After retiring, she devoted herself full-time to caring for her beloved husband during his final years, demonstrating her characteristic selflessness and unwavering love.
Margaret married Frederick William Edler on October 1, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Their marriage was blessed with nearly sixty wonderful years, five children, and countless memories. Sadly, Fred passed away on March 10, 2020. Margaret was a dedicated member of Cross Lutheran Church and was active in many Ladies Circles and Sunday night bible study group. A woman of faith, she never missed her daily devotions. Margaret was a wonderful homemaker, hanging many clothes on the line, baking delicious goodies, and cooking; her German potato salad was always a hit. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetables, sewing, cross-stitching, quilting, and embroidery. Margaret grew up loving to play Chinese Checkers and Pinochle and you could find her more recently putting together puzzles and solving Suduko. She was a steadfast friend, a loving family member, and a cherished part of the community. Margaret will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Daniel Edler, along with his children, Kyle and Katie Edler and their daughter Mae, and Kelsey and Matt Schultz and their children, Emery and Westin; Doug and Debra Edler and their children, Matthew Edler, Michael and Emily Edler and their son Kayden, and Branden Edler; Peggy (David) McCrimmon and their extended family of stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; Patricia and Alexander Cucinello and their children, Cory Cucinello and Maryann, Christina and Jarod Stoutenburg, and Cody and Haley Cucinello, who are eagerly awaiting their newest addition; Brian Edler and his daughter Madison Edler; sister-in-law, Kay Joslin; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and kind neighbors. In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Karl and beloved sister, Virginia.
Margaret’s funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 11:00am at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon with the burial following at Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Margaret’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon and again at church on Tuesday from 10:00am until her service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Brookdale Bay City and American Hospice for their compassionate care they gave Margaret. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to American Hospice, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or Cross Lutheran Church.
