Margaret Ferne Emery of Caro, age 87, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025. She was born March 27, 1938 in Skeetrock, Virginia, the daughter of the late Grover and Velva (Stone) Branham. Margaret married Lionel Roy Emery on June 25, 1960. Over the years, the couple moved multiple times throughout the country chasing various jobs. The most memorable and challenging move was to San Francisco Presidio Army base after Roy was drafted. Margaret and Roy finally settled in Michigan to continue and grow their lives. They adored their animals, especially their horses; Roy’s was named Bob and Margaret’s was named Patches. They also had a dalmatian “Queenie” who held a special place in their hearts.
On May 12, 1976, Margaret gave birth to her son, Jason, in Saginaw. She cared for him and later his family until her passing. Margaret loved being a mother and all the challenges that motherhood entailed. She supported and cared for Roy in every way possible throughout their nearly fifty-two years. Margaret was the primary caregiver for Roy after he suffered a stroke in 1999. She tirelessly assisted him in whatever he needed until his death in 2012.
Margaret was full of life and found joy in the simple things. She loved listening to music, watching animals, and feeding the birds. Sitting outside on the deck or porch with a cup of coffee was one of her favorite ways to relax. She enjoyed riding her bike, going on walks, and traveling to visit her beloved family in the South. Margaret never missed an opportunity for a good conversation, whether on the phone or in person, and always kept a close eye on the weather and temperatures. She adored her son and loved to spoil him. Day trips, watching sports, and tuning into QVC were some of her favorite pastimes. And no evening was complete without a batch of popcorn. Margaret loved reminiscing about her younger years. She cherished the simple things in life and the people she surrounded herself with were her world.
On September 20, 2015, Margaret was blessed with a granddaughter from Jason and Shannon. Estée Eve became the light of her life. Margaret would always accept a visit or an overnight stay from Estée. They shared countless bags of popcorn while watching movies, played many games, went shopping, and loved sitting and talking. Margaret will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, in-laws, and many other family and friends.
Margaret’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro.
