Margaret Slavin Kelly, 100, of Caseville, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Margaret was born January 16, 1916 in Bad Axe to the late Michael and Mabel (Patterson) Slavin. She was the 10th of 12 children, and the last living. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1933. She married Virgil Kelly on May 6, 1940 at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1970.
Margaret worked for 20 years at Thumb Oil and Gas before working for the City of Bad Axe as treasurer, retiring in 1978. She was a former member of St. Felix Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and Caseville Retirement Club. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, reading, athletics, and crafting.
She is survived by her children Joseph Patrick (Bonnie) Kelly of South Lyon, Mary Kathleen (Richard) Bennett of Florida, Margaret Ann (George) Pipiringos of Utica, Diane Evelyn (Charles) Sisson of Tennessee and Therese Michelle (Dwayne) Humphrey of Kinde; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Jim Sisson.
A funeral mass will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 16th at St. Roch/OLPH Catholic Church in Caseville with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bad Axe.
Visitation will be 3-7 Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to mass on Saturday in church. Memorials may be made to St. Roch/OLPH Catholic Church. There will be a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 4PM Friday at the funeral home.
