Marge Heckman, 99, of Pigeon, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe, where she had been a resident the past four years.

Marguerite Helen was born October 29, 1918 in Oliver Township to the late Thomas Joseph and Lucy Anna (Bursick) Barry.  She lived on the family farm in Elkton, until her marriage to Arnold Francis Heckman on June 14, 1938; he preceded her in death June 7, 1962.  The marriage was blessed with two children:  Ronald (Janet) and Diane (James) Dubey, both of Pigeon.

Marge was a lifetime member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.  Along with her husband, they were one of the thirteen original members that donated to the Altar at St. Francis Church.  She was a 1936 graduate of Elkton High School and also attended Northeastern Business School.  She was a very civic minded person, and enjoyed serving her community in various organizations.

After agreeing to work one year at the local Newspaper Office (Progress Advance), she worked the following 35 years, and retired as Office Manager in 1986.  Marge was always proud of her bowling team which was known as the “Heckman Clippers.”  The group bowled together for many years and won several league championships.

Marge was blessed with six grandchildren:  Rick Lawrence, Jeff (Tara) Lawrence, Ronda Albrecht, Randal (Bernadette) Heckman, Angela Lawrence and Ryan Heckman.  She was Great Grandma “Gonk” to Michael, Brody and Drew Lawrence, Ben and Carl Albrecht, Brady (Tayllor) and Madison Heckman, Brooke Chaplinski and Levi Tamblyn.   Marge was also Great-Great-Grandmother to Emmersyn Heckman.  Marge was the second oldest of ten children, of which Virginia Plevnia of Bad Axe and John Barry of Elkton survive.   She was preceded in death by her siblings:  Ethel Zaremba, Alice Krohn, Louis Barry, Anna Mae Lee, Helene Smith, Edith Jeanette Ross and Marian Lane.

A mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Wednesday, February 21 st at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Pare presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 3-8 Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.

Marge’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Huron County Medical Care Facility for the kind and wonderful care given to Marge.  Memorials may be given to the Activity Department at Huron County Medical Care Facility.
