Marianna Harriett Childs

Marianna "Harriett" Childs of Unionville, age 96, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at her home, with her family and faithful companion, Abby, by her side. Harriett was born October 6, 1926 in Flint, the daughter of the late Judson and Alta May (Severence) Bigelow and graduated from Akron High School. On August 5, 1946, Harriett married the love of her life, Byron Edwin Childs. She was currently a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and played the organ and piano at the Akron Presbyterian Church. Harriett enjoyed putting together puzzles, embroidery, and reading. She loved the outdoors and was happiest camping, especially in Glennie and Dodge City. Harriett was an amazing homemaker and loved being with her family. Holidays and family get-togethers were always very dear to her. Above all, Harriett's children and grandchildren were the lights of her life. She will be missed dearly. Harriett leaves to cherish her memory her children, Allen (Barb) Childs, Lynn (Cheryl) Childs, David (Anna) Childs, and Sharon Childs; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, La Verne Bigelow; faithful companion that she lovingly referred to as "My Abby"; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Harriett was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Edwin Childs; son, Gary Edwin Childs; and brothers, Perry Bigelow, Ken Miller, and Elmer Miller. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, 5040 Maple St, Fairgrove, MI 48733. Reverend Philomena Ofori-Nipaah will officiate with burial following at Brookside Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church.
