Marie Sattelberg, age 96, died on Friday, July 8, 2011 at A Touch of Home in Caro, following a brief illness. She was born on February 27, 1915 in Sebewaing to the late George and Elizabeth (Duell) Link. On May 31, 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer Sattelberg in the parsonage of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. He preceded her in death on Fathers Day in 1963. They lived in Bach, Gagetown, Columbia Corners, and came to Caro in 1946. Marie started her work career at the Rainbow Restaurant, and in 1964 she became employed as a cook at the Caro State Hospital and stayed until her retirement in 1978. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. She was an avid follower of harness racing, supporting her son, loved the outdoors and “playing” in the dirt. Many of her family members have afghans that she made throughout the years. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Lobdell of Caro, Don (Sue) Sattelberg of Caro, and Lee (Denna) Sattelberg of Howell; nine grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Clara Horen of Roanoke, Virginia and Edna Wardlaw of Ferndale; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by the remainder of her siblings, George Jr., Herbert, Edwin, Elizabeth, Emma, and Frieda; a son-in-law, Herb Lobdell; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Sattelberg. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Bennetts A Touch of Home and Michigan Hospice for their exceptional care. The funeral service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Monday, July 11, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Michigan Hospice.
