Marilyn Jean Langley Macleod

October 6, 1945 — July 29, 2014

Marilyn Jean Langley MacLeod, 68, of Shelby Township, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at her home with her family.

Marilyn was born October 6, 1945 in Detroit to the late Charles William and Jean (Drozdowski) Langley. She graduated from Utica High School in 1963. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree from Oakland University. In 1968 she married Kenneth MacLeod in Warren.

Her passion in life was teaching, whenever and wherever she could. For many years that was done while teaching in the Westwood Heights School District near Flint, but even in retirement she would still find ways to make learning fun for her grandchildren and those she came into contact with. In addition she enjoyed the arts (dance and opera) and being active outdoors (kayaking and cross country skiing). Her love of biking motivated her to form the biking group Thumb Easy Riders. Also occupying a special place in her heart was Caseville, having been a part time resident nearly her entire life.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth; daughter Darlene (Thomas) Roth of Shelby Twp; granddaughters Sophie Ann and Josephine Marie; and brother William Langley of Port Hope. She was preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Ann in 1983.

A funeral mass will be at 10:00 am Friday, August 1st at St. Roch-OLPH Catholic Church in Caseville with burial in St. Roch Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. She will lie in-state one hour prior to mass on Friday in church.

Memorials directed to the family will be used to further U of M breast cancer stem cell research.
