Marilyn J. Mitchell, 88, of Caseville, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.
Marilyn was born July 23, 1933 in Royal Oak to the late Francis and Margaret (Bellair) Walsh. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951 and Mercy College Nursing School in 1955 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She married Gerald Mitchell on May 4, 1957 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth; he preceded her in death August 2, 2012.
Marilyn raised her family in Royal Oak and spent summers in Caseville. In 1993 she retired from nursing at St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights and moved permanently to Caseville in 1995. In retirement she remained active through her community involvement, including United Hospice, Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary, Caseville Chamber of Commerce events, Caseville Arts Council, Caseville Food Pantry, Caseville Eagles Auxiliary, Caseville Historical Society, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Over the years Marilyn made countless thousands of chain rosaries for distribution in the missions. Marilyn loved music and performing, and she was able to showcase her talent in the TriCity Chorus of the Sweet Adelines and Thumb Community Concert Choir.
Marilyn is survived by her children Anne (Michael) Brophy, Sharon (Stuart) Fisher, Mary "Meg" (John) Ogg and Steve (Robin) Mitchell; grandchildren Katie (Matt), Erica (Joe), Mary (Paul), Ben (Maria), Thomas, Danny, Adam (Maygen), Devyn (Christopher), Kynson and Rowyn; great-grandchildren Austin, Shelby, Lily, Steven, Anistyn, Malachi and Emmy; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Joanne, Gerald, Sharon and Judy.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00am Tuesday, March 29th at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Burial will be in St. Roch Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.
