Marion W. Strieter

Marion Winafred Strieter, 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. She was born to John and Anna (McCormick) Russell on September 5, 1920, in Unionville.

Marion was united in marriage to Donald R. Strieter on June 19, 1940, at her parent's home. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2004.

Marion was very active in the Moravian Church and the community; being involved in the Couples Club, Women's Fellowship, Youth Advisor, quilting, sharing her talents on the Christmas Nativity "Putz" committee. She gave of her time as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, Auxiliary, Women's Club and Band Boosters. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, camping and traveling all over the U.S. with Don and her grandchildren. Some of her greatest experiences were going to Europe and lots of bus trips.

Marion was an accomplished seamstress and estimated she made over 100 quilts which were cherished by many. She also made many lap quilts for nursing homes even when her sight was failing.

She was dedicated in corresponding with her relatives and friends all over the country. Marion and Don enjoyed organizing picnics with family and friends at the "Flats". She loved to garden, can and cook. She always found time to play cards and have parties. She worked hard to find a way to provide for her children to benefit from Scouts, piano and dance lessons, 4-H, and many other activities.

Preceded her in death were her husband, Don; parents, John and Anna Russell; brother, Donald Russell; grandson, Mike Strieter; granddaughter, Kim Johnson; grandsons-in-law, Mark Benchek and Mark Freeman.

Surviving are her son, James (Kathy) Strieter; daughters, Karen (William) Thede, Connie (Richard) Gremel, Mary Jane (Charles) Perthes; sister, Betty Volk; brothers-in-law, Glen Moore, Harmon (Millie) Strieter; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation and service will take place on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Moravian Church in Unionville. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place following the service at the Moravian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Moravian Church in Unionville.
