Marjorie J. Dixon, (nee Workman) 78 of Pigeon passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 surrounded by the loving care of her family.
Marjorie was born June 16, 1943 in Deckerville to Aubrey and Lillian (Young) Workman. She graduated from Deckerville Community Schools and Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit.
Following Nursing School, she began working as an Emergency Room RN at Children's Hospital of Detroit, where she met a young medical student. Marj and Pete Dixon were married in 1966. Pete's internship and residency took them to California. They eventually settled in St. Helena, California until retirement in 2008 brought them back to Sand Point, Michigan.
Marj is survived by daughter, Susan Dixon of St. Helena, CA and son, Thomas Dixon of St. Helena, CA; Five grandchildren Maxwell Raunegger, Andreas Raunegger, Georgia Dixon, Henry Dixon and Samuel Raunegger all of St. Helena, CA; a sister, Catharine Hazen (Bruce) of White Lake, Mi. Sisters-in-law Barbara Dixon (Timothy Caldwell), Louise Dixon , brother-in-law Mike Dixon (Judy), four nieces, a nephew and many cousins also mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by spouse, Dr. Peter E. Dixon, November 2020; parents, Aubrey and Lillian Workman and parents in-law, Dr. Ralph and Betty Dixon.
Ever humble and always available to help those in need. Marj firmly believed in service and giving back to her community and friends. She served the American Red Cross as Executive Director of the St. Helena and Napa County Chapters for many years. Disasters such as fires, floods or earthquakes often found Marj on front line duty establishing shelters and caring for victims in their time of need. Her care for her ailing husband Peter in the last years of his life was exemplary.
Marj embraced life with a sense of grace to be admired. Always putting others first, Marj made an indelible mark on many. She was kind, patient and a great listener. People were drawn to her and actively sought her compassionate presence, friendship and honest advice. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community.
Marj was a member of Pigeon First United Methodist Church and St. Helena United Methodist Church. No services are planned at this time.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Napa Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.
