Marvin E. Lanning, age 73, of Pigeon died Wednesday evening, July 13, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw following complications of a ruptured brain aneurysm he suffered one month ago.
He was born April 27, 1932, in Lebanon, OK to the late Marvin and Myrtle (Armstrong) Lanning and moved to California with his parents at the age of 12. After high school, he was inducted in the US Air Force in 1951 and served in Korea. When he returned, he was stationed at the Port Austin Air Base. He met Evelyn Miller during that time and they were married October 24, 1953. They moved to California after his discharge.
Marvin became an installer and repairman for A T & T for 27 years and then for Lucent Technologies for 8 years, retiring in 1986. In 1988, they decided to move back to Huron County settling in Pigeon.
He was a member of Pigeon VFW Post #2236, Hubbard Winsor Lodge #420 F&AM, Scottish Rite & Consistory of Pasadena, CA and the Huron Shrine Club of Bad Axe donating many hours to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Surviving are his wife of almost 52 years, Evelyn; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Symons of Pigeon and Betty Lashbrook of Sun City, FL; two first cousins, Clinton Lanning of Tulsa, OK and Vincent Ferriols of Seattle, WA.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:30 PM Tuesday, July 19, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Elkton. Rev. James Nihzer, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sand Point will officiate with burial in Verona Twp. Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Tuesday until the time of services. Memorial gifts may be directed to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
