Mary E Alexander age 87, of Rochester Hills, formerly of Elkton, died Tuesday morning, May 24, at Crittenton Hospital, Rochester.
She was born January 7, 1929 in West Point, Mississippi to the late Clarence and Lucille (Watson) Cook. She grew up there and graduated from West Point High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Duane L. Alexander, January 31, 1946 and made their home in Mississippi. In 1951, they moved to Bay Port and in 1966 they came to Elkton where her husband was an Elkton Police officer.
In 1964, when her children were nearly grown, began working at Cass City Cable given them 20 years, retiring in 1986. That same year they left Elkton to relocate in Benton, KY. They came back to Michigan in November of last year, when her health began to fail, to live near her son.
Mary was a fun loving person who loved to read, bake and cook, always willing to share her recipes and really enjoyed visiting with friends and family especially to discuss politics.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Duane; her son, Mike (Betsy) Alexander of Rochester Hills; three grandchildren, Brad Alexander of Shelby Twp., Jaime (Jessie) Rhodes of Benton, KY and Jeremy Stroud of Montana; three great grandchildren, Madison, Mallerie and Macie; two brothers, James (Julia) Cook of Dallas, TX and Robert (Eleanor) Cook of Fort Worth, TX; four sisters, Kay Permenter, Sudie Holbrooks and Donna (Russell) Kelly all of West Point, MS and Peggy (Dick) Kuhl of Bay Port.
Preceding her in death were two children, Bruce Alexander and Robin Stroud; son-in-law, John Stroud and a brother, Clarence Cook.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, May 27, at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Thursday and after 10 AM Friday.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or donor’s choice.
