Mary Ann Smith, 77, of Valparaiso, Indiana and formerly of Port Austin, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Mary was born on May 20, 1948, in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late Peter and Christina (Zimpkoski) Klosowski. Mary attended North Huron Schools in Kinde, MI and graduated from the class of 1966. Mary met her husband, Michael O. Smith while he was assigned to the Port Austin Air Force Station. Mary and Mike were married on September 2, 1967, in Bad Axe, MI. They relocated to Valparaiso, Indiana shortly after their marriage. Mike preceded her in death on March 11, 2019.
Mary made her career with McGill's in Valparaiso, Indiana for 20 years. She loved spending time with her grandsons at the kitchen table with homemade play dough when they were young. She was an amazing cook who was known for her cheesecake. Mary will be remembered as the most loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a heart of gold and a selfless nature that will live on in the lives of those she touched during her lifetime. Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her sons Greg (Christina) Smith and Christopher Smith all from Valparaiso, Indiana; her grandchildren Zachary (Destinie) Smith of Cocoa, Florida and Ryan Smith of Valparaiso, Indiana; her brothers Robert Klosowski and John Klosowski both of Port Austin, Michigan; and her brother-in-law LeRoy Jennings of Rockledge, Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Marlene Klosowski, Violet Jennings, and Josephine (Paul) Ottinger.
Per Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
