Mary Jane A. Voelker, 89, of Caseville, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Pigeon.
Mary Jane was born March 27, 1934 in Bay City to the late Harold and Marian (Balenda) Dinsmore. In 1952 she graduated from Handy High School in Bay City. She graduated from St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Saginaw and later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Hospital Management from Ferris State University. She married Kenneth Voelker on January 7, 1961 in Bay City; he preceded her in death on June 30, 1977.
Mary Jane worked as a registered nurse at Hills & Dales Hospital, Scheurer Hospital and the Huron County Health Department, retiring in 1998. She was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish (St. Francis Borgia). She was active in her community serving as a board member at Bay Port State Bank, member of Pigeon Women’s Club, member of Pigeon Worthwhile Club, and member of the local Farm Bureau group. Later in life she volunteered her time at the Huron County Nature Center. She enjoyed walking on the shoreline in Caseville and doing yoga with neighbor friends. She will be remembered for her faith, strength, independence, and sense of civic duty.
Mary Jane is survived by her children Erik (Pauline) of Pigeon, Bernadette (Rick) Truxal of Wichita, Kansas and Michael (Leah) of Brighton; grandchildren Janessa (Tyler) Johnson, Cody (Maddie), Lauren Truxal, Emma Truxal, and Isabelle; great-grandson Colton Johnson. She was preceded in death by her brothers: James, Ronald, John “Jack,” Gerald, and Harold Dinsmore.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00am Monday, May 15 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon with Fr. George Amos presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5pm Saturday, May 13 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon. There will be a rosary at 10:30am Monday at the church immediately before mass.
