Mary Barton

Mary Helen Barton, age 90, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Caro Senior Commons, following a lingering illness. She was born November 28, 1920 in Crane, Missouri, the daughter of the late Albert & Lorca (Rickman) Weis and the family moved to Caro when Mary was a young girl. Following graduation from Caro High School, Mary continued her education by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at the Caro State Hospital for a period of time. She was united in marriage with Ken Barton in the early 1960s in Iowa, and returned to Lapeer in the 1970s. Ken preceded Mary in death on February 15, 1986, and shortly after, Mary returned to Caro. Mary was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Surviving Mary are seven children and their spouses, Larry Romain of California, Helen & Dwaine Peters of Cass City, David & Diane Romain of Caro, Mary Jo & Bob Ward of Caro, Clyde Romain of Cass City and his special friend, Connie, Tom & Betsy Romain of Adrian, Pete & Kathy Romain of Caro; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by one daughter, Lorca (Penny) Romain; two great-grandsons; four brothers, Eugene, Gerald, Albert and Richard Weis; and two sisters, Imogene Martin and Dorothy Gage.
