Mary Carter

Mary Carter, age 90, passed away on April 25, 2011 at Vadavilla AFC Home. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Brazil to the late Henry and Wanda (Grunch) Kern. Mary was one of fourteen children, the family fled Germany when the countrys conditions started to deteriorate and after a number of stops they went to Brazil and then on to the United States. She came to the United States at New York, stayed in New Jersey, and then on to Michigan. The whole family worked in the fields for local farmers upon their arrival in Tuscola County. After the war, she had occasion to move to Mississippi and on to California, settling in Morango Valley. She moved back to Caro to live with her brother in May of 2010. Her whole life was built around work. Of her thirteen siblings, she is survived by one brother, Fred Kern of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all of her remaining siblings and their spouses. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Cameron Steele, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Caro, officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Caro.
