Mary Millerwise

Mary Louise (Sequin) Millerwise, 91 of Sebewaing passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe, MI on March 8, 2020.

Mary was born on October 3 ^rd , 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee, the youngest daughter of Harry Sequin Sr and Wilhelmine (Minnie) Sequin.   She met and married her husband Bob on June 28, 1947 and shortly after moved to Michigan.  Although a "city girl" she quickly fell in love with our small town. Bob and Mary were married for 68 years when he passed in 2015.

When her children were young she worked as the secretary for her beloved Trinity United Methodist Church for several years where she also taught Sunday school and volunteered in many ways.  Later she worked at Farmers and Merchants State Bank before retiring in 1988.  At any given day you would find her teaching her precious grands how to play solitaire, bake cookies, plant flowers, play piano – she was a fun loving, ready for anything Grandma and Great Grandma! Roasting hot dogs in the fireplace, eating homemade macaroni and cheese and chocolate chip cookies will never be the same for them!  She rocked them as babes, got down on the floor and played with them, but more importantly she showed them by example how to treat people - she prayed for them - everyday of their lives!  Whether it was an airplane flight, a road trip, a surgery or an Algebra test, she had to know the exact time and we knew she would be "on her prayer knees!"  Later when their lives slowed, Mary and Bob would spend hours driving around the area looking for wildflowers, watching birds, and looking at the shoreline.

Over the years Mary made countless casseroles, Special K bars and cookies for family, friends and strangers.  You couldn't leave her house after a visit without something like that in hand.  Her life was truly a living example of a verse from Ephesians, her favorite book of the Bible, "Be kind and compassionate to one another."

Left to cherish her memory are her three children; Scott (Jill) Millerwise,  Beth (Howard) Fiebig, both of Sebewaing  and Lynn (James) Spurr of Portage MI. Five grandchildren; Steve Millerwise, Stephanie (Ron) Long, Joel (Rebecca) Fiebig, Erica (Nicholas) Humilier and Christopher Spurr. Seven "great grands" as she would call them, Ryan and Matthew Millerwise, Garrett and Lauren Adam, Kasen, Paige, and Jake Fiebig,   sister- in- law, Kathy (Jerry) Millerwise of Sebewaing and several nieces and nephews.

We envision her tapping her foot to the choir singing the Hallelujah Chorus as she was welcomed into her eternal home by her Heavenly Father and her loving husband Robert.  We are not sure who was more excited to see her!  Also surrounding him in welcoming her were her parents, brothers; Harry Jr (Marge) Sequin and Louie (Louise)Sequin , sisters; Carolyn (David)Hughey, Lucille (RD) Williams  and Bookey (Scottie)Hughes , brothers- in- law,  Carl, Howard and Jerry Millerwise and many of her beloved Millerwise relatives- what an amazing reunion!

Mary's celebration of life will be held at a later date due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church and In lieu of flowers, please honor Mary in helping others.  Make that neighbor a casserole, stop and visit with an old friend, mail someone a greeting card, help a stranger and give everyone you meet a smile – pray for others as she always prayed for all of us...

We would like to thank everyone for their love and attention to Mom since Dad's passing when she was alone.  We especially want to thank all the nurses, aides and staff at Courtney Manor for the kindness and tender care you gave Mom – we will always be grateful to you for your kindness to all of us during this past year.
