Mary Alice Nimtz age 88, of Caseville, passed away Sunday August 5, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe.

She was born August 20, 1923, in Detroit the only child of the late James and Mary (Wedge) Toomey and was baptized September 2, 1923 at Sainte Anne de Detroit, in Detroit.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Nimtz on November 27, 1943 at Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit and moved to Caseville, where they raised their family.

Together with Raymond, they owned and operated R. H. Nimtz Grocery and Meats in Caseville opening their business August 14, 1945 and operating it until 1951. That year they started Nimtz Insurance Agency and later added Nimtz Real Estate, retiring in 1984. Raymond preceded her in death March 28, 1997.

She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Caseville, and was a faithful and loving servant to all. She was the Huron County coordinator of the fluoride treatment program given in the elementary schools during the 1950’s. Mary always put the needs of others before hers.

Surviving are four children, Janet ( Ken) Kehoe of Sun City, AZ and their children and grandchildren, Patrick ( Michele) Kehoe, Christopher and Jonathan of Phoenix, Jay (Kathryn) Kehoe, Mina, Collin, and Sarah of Mason, OH, Ronald (Mary Beth) Nimtz of Elkton and their children and grandchildren, Gregory (Kendra) Nimtz, Isaac and Lucie of Muskegon; Erin (Jeremy) Frye, Sienna and Hudson of Shields and Jeffrey (Melissa) Nimtz and Ryan of Battle Creek, Debra (Ramon) Garcia, of Auburn and their children and grandchildren, Alan (Brooke) Garcia, Lauren and Adrianna of Essexville, Justin (Melissa) Garcia, Lillian and Elaina of Bay City; and Kristen (Jeffrey) Glasser and Sofia of Essexville and Pamela (John) Bonke of Pigeon and their children Jordan and Joy; two nieces Joyce (Roger) Kuhl of Owosso and Joan (Fred) Matthews of Decker.
Mary was predeceased by her step-mother, Rita Porter; sister-in-law, Marjorie Gremel; cousin, Dorothy Knoll; great grandson, Alexander Garcia, and her lifelong friend, Blanche Letourneau.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Caseville. Pastor Steven Stolarczyk will officiate with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sebewaing.

Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Tuesday and at the church after 10 AM Wednesday.
