Mary Jane Phillips

Mary Jane Phillips of Caro, age 83, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community. Mary was born April 11, 1941, in Kingston Township, the daughter of the late Frank and Cora (Newton) Johnson. She graduated from Caro High School and went on to work at the Caro State Hospital as a housekeeper and supervisor until her retirement in 1997. On June 19, 1961, Mary was united in marriage with Charles Phillips. Sadly, he preceded her in death on December 15, 1996. Mary was a lifelong member of the Caro Moose Lodge and a dedicated Christian and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She always enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, crafting, gardening, and sitting in the sun. Mary loved to have fun, whether it was singing, dancing, or karaoke, as long as it was with her friends and family, you could count on her to be there. Her quick wit and spunky personality will be remembered by all who knew her.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her children, David & Shirley Phillips of Caro, Sandra & Gerald Vanderpool of Kingston, Wayne & Tammy Phillips of Caro, Janelle & Dan Dickinson of Cass City, and Faith & John Miller of Caro; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Margo Phillips of Harbor Beach; son-in-law, Rick Hawkins of Manistee; brother, Frank Johnson, Jr. of Caro; sister, Delores & James Cybulski of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her children, Charles Phillips, Cheryl Daniels, and Kimberly Hawkins; and brother, Robert Johnson

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Rev. Cameron Steele will officiate with the burial following at Novesta Township Cemetery. Mary’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Tuscola County Medical Care Community that have cared for her so greatly over the years.
