Mary Ellen Pontack

Mary Ellen Pontack, age 66, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn.

Mary was born in Detroit on May 31, 1958, to Richard and Margaret (LaChance) Thurner. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School in Marine City, Class of 1976. She then attended and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in marketing and business. She married Michael Pontack on August 1, 1980 at St. Thecla Catholic Church in Clinton Township. Mary owned and operated Apex International of Michigan, dealing in computer peripheral supplies, in Howell. She was a gentle soul who enjoyed boating, flowers, birds, sunsets, wind surfing and eating watermelon.

Mary is survived by her husband and caregiver, Michael; her mother-in-law, Marie T. Pontack; siblings: William (Karen) Thurner, Louise Decker, Dorothy (Kirk) Barrick and John (Denise)  Thurner; 16 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, John Pontack; and brother-in-law, Richard Decker.

Per Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation and service is planned for Friday, October 4, 2024 at Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, MI. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 10am until the time of service at 11am. A luncheon will take place after the service. Fr. Yesu will be officiating.
