Mary R. Viers

Mary R. Viers of Caro, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at her home, following a brief illness. She was born July 3, 1932 in Steinman, Virginia, the daughter of the late Frederick T. and Ruby (Turner) Stallard. Mary was united in marriage with James Viers on February 7, 1948 in Clintwood, Virginia. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2009. Mary and her husband moved to Caro from Detroit in 1978. Mary had been employed at Great Lakes Filters Company for twenty years, retiring in 1978. Mary loved being with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilt making, scrapbooking. Mary was also an active member of the Caro VFW Auxiliary. Mary is survived by one son, one daughter and their spouses, Tom & Kay Viers of Sand Point, Shirley & Dennis Janusch of New Baltimore; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Michael & Jennifer Viers, Amy & Darren Smithers, Curtis & Leighann Viers, Isaac & Stacy Viers, Jonathon Viers, Brian & Wendy Ignash, Michael & Susan Ignash, Adam & Amy Janusch, Kimberly & Mark Iijanic,; nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers Larry Stallard of Owensboro, Kentucky, Benny & Shirley Stallard of Haysi, Virginia; one sister, Diane & Joe Davis of Haysi, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jamie Viers in 1983; two brothers, Johnny and Jerry; and three sisters, Mildred, Margaret and Glenna. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Chaplain Ron Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a VFW Auxiliary memorial service on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
