Matilda R. "Tillie" Gintner

Matilda R. Gintner 96, of Elkton went to meet her Lord, Friday morning, August 16 at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe.

She was born September 8, 1916 in Akron to the late John and Bertha (Rothe) Schneider. Matilda was baptized at the Lutheran church in Unionville and confirmed by Pastor Feber in Linkville. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
She graduated 8th grade from the Wisner Country School. Later, when her children were grown she took nurses training and worked as a private nurse for six months, worked at Sunny Acres Nursing Center until retiring in 1979. She loved taking care of the elderly. Matilda wrote a book of poetry and won the Golden Award for a poem called “Little Old Lady”, this poem was put in the Golden Treasury of great poems. “Tillie”, as she was called by her closest friends, loved making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Her way of life was to treat people with respect and believe in God.

Matilda married Steve Ginter May 4, 1935, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Berne by Rev. Walker. He preceded her in death September 22, 2001.

She leaves behind a daughter, Sharon Ouellette of Mt. Morris;son-in-law, Bob Bailey of Bad Axe; two grandchildren, Lori (Thomas) Thiell of North Branch and Mike (Stephanie) Schmidt of Potterville; five great grandchildren, Shaun, Michelle, Katie, Michael and Joseph and five great great grandchildren, Camdyn, Caitlyn, Landon, Coltyn and Jordan.

Preceding her in death were three children, Jean Bailey, Robert and Gary Gintner and sibling, Mary Finkbeiner, Joe Reimann, Lena McCallum, Regina Smith, Irene Particka and Rose Volz.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday August 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. Rev. James Gorsengner, pastor of St John’s Berne will officiate with burial in New River Cemetery, Grindstone.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church Tuesday after 10 AM
